High Tea at the QVB
A few weekends back I went on an epic adventure to my first high tea at the QVB in The Tea Room! After prepping my nails, with my green spring flower design I was ready to go! The occasion was certainly special as I had the chance to see a friend who I haven’t caught up with since June! This is definitely one of the unfortunate parts of living in a different city. Additionally today was extra special as it was the first time I had worn contacts. It was a really strange feeling being able to see without glasses but at the same time such a nice feeling.
Entry into wonderland
Walking through the QVB building in Sydney really sets the scene for this high tea. We somehow managed to enter via the staircase instead of the elevator. While this detracted from the entry a little (the elevator is awesome!), I still felt that I had stepped into somewhere magical.
After being greeted by reception we entered the amazing ballroom. The furniture was magnificent and the ceiling is stunning. The decorations that were found in the room with the impressive chandeliers set the scene as we were being lead us into a magical wonderland.
Tea introductions and a little bit of history
We decided to go with the traditional high tea. Each of us selected a different tea. This was not an easy choice with at least four pages of tea to choose from. However, if you are stuck on what to select the staff are available to recommend a few teas.
Upon reading the menu we were fascinated to discover that high tea was something started by the lower class whereby afternoon tea was combined with dinner. If you interested in more of the history have a read here: http://thetearoom.com.au/high-tea-menu/
The teas selected were Hevan and Earth; Wild Cherry; Earl Grey and Orange Pekoe. Each of us was provided with our own personal teapot that was refilled as required. I don’t think anyone was disappointed with our selection of tea.
The food and service
Shortly after the tea arrived we were presented with our food. We began with a small snack plate. I can’t really describe what was provided only that each item on the plate was delicious and the perfect start to this meal.
The two tiers of food also arrived. We were provided with a single assorted sandwich plate to share and a plate of deserts each. We also had one giant scone each. It was far more food than I had anticipated!!
The sandwiches were delicate and the flavours were perfectly balanced. The deserts were very decadent. I loved the lemon cheesecake.
I love that the teapots were refilled without asking and that the staff ensured that we were ok without being overbearing.
Overall Verdict
If I have the chance I would certainly head back to have high tea at QVB. There was heaps of food and the experience was amazing. It felt really nice to be spoilt for a while and gave us the perfect opportunity catch-up. Hopefully, it’s not as long before our next catchup.
Overall I give The Tea Room a score of 4.5/5
This looks absolutely gorgeous! What a lovely setting and decor along with the scrummy food 🙂 I love a good afternoon tea, nothing better than getting to try lots of different flavours!
