Cronulla and Bundeena – Australia

I have been living in Sydney for about 5 years now. However, until a few weeks ago I hadn’t made the trek to Cronulla beach. I’m not sure why I just haven’t travelled there yet. Anyway back to the adventure. My partner’s father arrived early Sunday morning. We decided to take him to one of our favourite cafes, Paper Boy, for breakfast whilst we worked out what we should do for the day given that we were all going to be quite busy during the week. We ended deciding to check out the Cronulla to Bundeena ferry.

We quickly travelled back home after fueling ourselves with coffees (yes that is meant to be plural), we grabbed our opal cards and some warm clothes before heading towards the train. To get to Cronulla head towards Redfern and change trains onto the Cronulla line (you can plan your trip here: http://www.sydneytrains.info/). It’s quite a long train trip so make sure you have something to keep yourself occupied. Personally, I just enjoyed looking out the window and seeing how the landscape changed as we moved further away from central Sydney. I also snuck in a few Instagram comments/likes and a quick photo app tutorial with my fellow travellers.

Cronulla

The stop for Cronulla was the last on the line. On the train journey, I realised that I didn’t pack any sea sickness tables. Despite the water being quite calm I know that I would still feel unwell. So we headed to the main shopping area in the hope of finding a pharmacy. It was great walking around this area. The people seemed quite friendly and relaxed. It was a nice change from Sydney’s hustle and bustle.

After successfully finding the pharmacy we headed straight for the ferry. Unfortunately, we discovered that we would have to wait about an hour for the next ferry. So we decided to grab a coffee. We headed down a side street near the shopping strip to discover a very cute bookshop cafe, Anna’s Shop Around The Corner (pop over to Instagram and follow Anna for amazing food pics!). The walls were lined with an amazing range of books. We each got a coffee and shared a small slice of apple cake. The coffee was perfect and the cake was delicious, we wanted another piece. Although it was probably better for the waistlines that we stuck to the one slice.

Realising the boat would be leaving shortly we headed quickly back towards the water. We jumped on the boat and purchased our ticket onboard.

Bundeena

After about a 30-minute boat ride, we arrived on the shore of Bundeena. I was surprised to see people in the water given that it was so cold. The surroundings were beautiful. The area was lined with the beach sand and idyllic Aussie bush.

Feeling peckish we headed to the IGA for a pie and drink. It was so relaxing eating along the water.

With a few hours left in the day, we headed inland for a stroll around the area. The bushland was beautiful and the views were amazing.

As the sun was setting we headed back to the ferry. However, everyone else had the same idea and the ferry filled up leaving us waiting for an hour for the next ferry. Apart from the cold, it wasn’t bad as we were able to watch the beautiful sunset. Before we knew it we were heading back home for dinner.

The day was fantastic and I’m keen to head out to Cronulla again to explore more!
