Head across the water to Wentworth Point, Sydney to be greeted by one of the cutest cafes I have ever seen. Having just returned from a few days in Melbourne we felt like continuing our holiday for a little while longer so we decided to try the newly opened Hey Dear. The name Hey Dear Coffee Co completely suits the decor and you can see so much thought has gone into the design. As we enter and approach the counter the owner quickly jumps up to say ‘hi’ and to explain a little of the menu. Currently Hey Dear is having a soft launch so the menu was limited.
The Decor
So before I jump into the food I have to talk about the decor. Normally I wouldn’t pay to much attention, however, this place is so beautiful I can’t resist talking about it.
The walls are painted a very light pink. The roof including the exposed pipes is painted a slightly darker pink. I know this sounds like too much pink but combined with the other furniture it works really well. Like I said at the beginning I’m not a fan of pink but this does work.
The chairs are beautiful and work well with the marble style tables. On each table are a very beautiful gold salt and pepper shaker that breaks up the pink. Additionally, the flamingos on each table add a cute touch. The decor on the table is a perfect size and you don’t feel squashed on the tables. Additionally, the green and white flowers tie everything in the room together.
In the background, gentle music plays. The music suits the cafe so well and helps to create such a relaxing atmosphere. If I didn’t have other things to do today, I would have quite happily sat relaxing in Hey Dear drinking more coffee.
Food and Coffee
On to the most important part….the food. The owner told us of the specials and food on offer. Quite often when trying out a new cafe I have a few go-to dishes that I pick just so I can gauge the quality. Both my partner and I grabbed a bacon and egg roll with a coffee. I was so glad that they didn’t even blink when I asked for no egg in my partners roll. So many times when asking for no egg we will be challenged, so it was a nice change for the request to simply be accepted. We both also requested for large skinny cappuccino.
The coffee arrived very quickly. They tasted absolutely amazing. They weren’t burnt and the latte art was perfect.
Bacon and Egg Roll
Not long after our coffee’s had arrived the bacon and egg rolls were ready. They plating was simple which for a bacon and egg roll is all that is needed. The top of the roll was slightly on the side showing off the amazing bacon and egg. I love the touch of providing additional sauce just-in-case we wished to add more. I took full advantage of the additional sauce adding a little more to my roll as I love lots of sauce on my bacon and egg roll. Additionally, because my partner had no egg they added a little more bacon. I absolutely love when places do this. It’s little details like this that make me want to return. Perfectly cooked bacon that was not burnt and an egg was fried to perfection truly made this roll. I don’t know why but lately I’ve had a really bad run of burnt bacon. The yoke was soft but not runny and the whites were cooked all the way through. Soft warm buns brought the roll together. This is certainly one of the best bacon and egg rolls that I have had for a long time.
Summary
This cafe just oozes cuteness, I can’t wait to see what other food they come up with. The decor creates such a relaxing atmosphere and the service is fantastic. Hey Dear make a point of paying attention to the small details which really puts it on a level of its own. The food was delicious and the coffee was great! I will certainly be returning again soon!
