Welcome to part 1 of my 11 part Melbourne series! I only traveled around Melbourne for four days, however, squeezing it into a single post just won’t do my trip justice. So here we are at the beginning of an 11 part series. To see what’s in store read my intro post here.
Our arrival
We arrived in Melbourne late on Friday night. Unfortunately, the flight was delayed by about 30mins but that was ok. I wasn’t too bothered as it gave me some time to recover from the evening’s drinks. As soon as we landed we headed to the city using the sky bus. I find the sky bus is a cheaper way to get into the city from the airport. However, if you have four people the cost is about the same as taking a cab. After arriving at Southern Cross station we jumped in a taxi to our accommodation. We could have walked however, I wasn’t keen on trying to navigate late at night especially when I just wanted to sleep.
Day 1 – Melbourne Exploring
As soon as we woke up I headed out onto the balcony to check out the amazing view. It was slightly foggy but was clear enough to get some awesome pics!
We started our day at 8 am, heading towards the markets looking for breaky. After scoping out the cafe’s we selected an awesome looking place called Good-egg (post coming soon). One of the key challenges that we had with finding a place was that because there were 6 of us we quite often were struggling to get a table.
Following breaky, we decided to check out the markets. It was a great way to work off breakfast and explore the awesome stalls. We didn’t buy anything although some places were very tempting.
After spending about 30mins at the markets we headed into the city, slowly making our way to high tea.
Melbourne has so many fascinating buildings to explore and it was just nice to walk around and take it all in.
Street Art
It didn’t take long before we came across some awesome street art. It seems to be everywhere in the city. Keep an eye out in alleyways and on the side of buildings. You may even have the chance to witness the art being painted.
Yarra River and more amazing sights
The Yarra River is such a focal point for Melbourne. There is always something happening and it’s just simply beautiful walking around.
Melbourne at Night
Melbourne is just as beautiful at night as it is during the day. If you’re walking around in Winter like we made sure you have a really warm jacket! After getting dinner we headed into Woolworths to get some snacks. I was so excited when I saw Big M flavoured milk. They are generally only found in Western Australia and have been something that I’ve missed whilst I have lived in Sydney. So despite the fact that I wasn’t meant to be having any dairy, I just had to get the iced coffee flavour.
Until my next post
This is only a part of day 1! I honestly don’t know how we managed to fit in so much into one day. Melbourne’s layout makes it so easy to get around which certainly helped.
