I had been looking forward to this dinner from the minute it was booked. I was going to see family who I hadn’t seen for 5 years at least!! To make things even more exciting I was going to meet two of my little cousin for the first time and catch up with another cousin who I had been emailing for a while.
My partner and I jumped on what we thought was the correct tram. Turns out it was going in the complete opposite direction. We jumped off as soon as we could and walked back to where we started. Finally, we found the right stop and boarded the correct tram. I was so glad we left a little early but I was still worried that we would be late. The tram trip was great. I really enjoyed seeing Melbourne’s suburbs pass by, it was the first time I had been outside of the Melbourne CBD other than the Yarra Valley.
We arrived a little early and decided to go for a small walk to explore the area. There was a small set of shops nearby but we didn’t get to see much else as we didn’t want to venture too far.
Hellenic Republic
Hellenic Republic has three locations across Melbourne. We visited the one located in Kew as it would only require one tram and was within the range of my family.
Heading inside, we were greeted by a friendly waiter and guided to our table.
After catching up a little we decided to go with the Masa menu giving us a wide range of the food on offer. It was great to have this option as I didn’t know what to select.
The food came out at a steady pace and each was delicious. I loved the Zucchini keftethes and chicken from the spit. It was fantastic having a variety of food that worked well with each other.
Following the main dishes was a dessert called Loukoumades. This was really similar to a doughnut but with a different sweet flavour. They were amazing and I wouldn’t say to no to having these again!
Overall – 4/5
I really enjoyed my time at Hellenic Republic and would certainly head back when I return to Melbourne!
