I can’t believe Melbourne Cup is just two days away. It’s such a perfect excuse to create some spring nail art.
For this weeks design, I was having trouble deciding what to do. I had thought of using a black base with gold glitter ombre. However, as much as this would have looked beautiful I felt it was too much for a lunchtime event. So I decided to go with a flower theme.
Spring Nail Art
My constraint for this design is that I didn’t want to use pink for the base colour. Other than that I was free to use any colour that I wanted as I will be wearing a black dress.
I started out with Sally Hasen – Parden my Garden. This lime green is the perfect colour for spring. My only complaint is this does take a long time to dry and so thin coats are a must.
I then moved onto the reverse stamping. I chose to do the colouring in on my stamping mat rather than the stamper itself, although both techniques work. I selected two different flower shapes, stamping four images on the mat for each hand (8 in total). For the accent finger, I stamped on a rose pattern using black stamping polish.
To colour the flowers I selected pastel colours including blue, pink and purple. The no pink rule for this design only applied to the base coat.
For the coat over the top of the colour, I used OPI – Start to finish. This is my favourite base/top coat for stamping. Once nearly dry, using tweezers I picked up each image and placed in on my nail. I used my finger to smooth out any bumps or ridges.
I then applied another top coat over the entire nail to complete this design.
Overall
I’m quite happy with how this design turned out especially as I was so unsure what I was going to do. The reverse stamping still needs a bit of work but I think it has certainly improved from my last few attempts.
