Each person will have their own tools that they find works for them. Below are the tools that I find work for me. I chose to focus on Pinterest and Instagram as after a fair bit of research I have found that they will drive more traffic to my blog giving me better returns. Lately I’ve been sharing my blog posts on niche Facebook groups to help increase traffic which has been quite helpful.
To me, blogging is more than just writing a piece and posting it. It’s certainly something that I am still learning. The following tips are what I find to be helpful in keeping up with all the various social media options as well as the actual writing.
- Choose a good hosting provider. When I first started my blog, I used wordpress.com which provides the hosting service for you. It’s really easy to set up and a great place to start. But as my blog grew, I found myself wanting to do more, including uploading videos and adding a small amount of advertisement on my blog. Without upgrading to a more expensive plan I couldn’t do this. After looking around I found that I could get a wordpress.org blog that I self-hosted on Bluehost. I found the Bluehost online support to be great and the speed for the chat response is really quick. There is nothing worse than not being able to access support and having responsive support removes the stress when things go wrong. This is why if you’re going to self-host, I recommend selecting Bluehost. If you’re wanting to convert from wordpress.com to wordpress.org check out my post here, that includes some tips and gotchas that I came across.
- Create a separate email: Many hosting providers include email services as well. I highly recommend creating a separate email address with your own domain. Firstly so that your professional emails remain separate from your personal emails and secondly it looks more professional. It also ensures that you remain organised and easily identify any emails related to your blog.
- Instagram Pods: Instagram is a pretty decent method to generate traffic to your blog. However for it to be successful you need engagement. Pods are a great way to support each other and generate engagement on your post. Another enjoyable way to increase engagement is to join a collaboration. If you haven’t been in a collaboration before read my Instagram Collaboration Guide.
- Instagram Automation: This is a huge time saver! I set up my posts for the week so that I post at least once a day. I personally use later. With later you get 30 free posts a month and can also manage other social media formats. This allows me to automatically post once a day for free!!
- Facebook Automation: Facebook has its own build in automation. However I use Later as I can set it up to share the same post to both Instagram and FB in one action saving heaps of time.
- Pinterest Automation: I recommend checking out Tailwind for automated Pinterest publishing. It does cost a small amount but I have found it to be the best Pinterest automation tool. It helps to find the best time to post and you can spread out the posts using the scheduler. Tailwind also includes the tribes feature where you can share your pins for your tribemates to re-share. Similar to pods it’s a great way to increase engagement on the platform.
- Use Canva to create images: Canva is a super each to use online base image creation tool. The images templates are easy to use and you can create some awesome designs from scratch. I especially love that it automatically sizes the images for the platform.
- Not posting: I know this might be an odd tip but if your tired or just too busy its ok to not post. We all need a break sometimes. Whilst the engagement might drop a little your happiness is worth far more than being forced to post.
- Pre-posting: having a few posts lined up or scheduled to post is a great way to take the pressure of having to write up posts every week.
- Record Ideas: Not being sure what to write can be challenging. If you think of an idea write it down straight away. I use my phone and OneNote to record ideas.
