Way back in August 2018 my partner and I headed to the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival. Yes, I am only just writing about this now but better late than never.
Our journey there was pretty easy, it required two trains followed by a free shuttle bus to the event. The shuttle bus was a really nice touch! Once we arrived we headed straight in, as we had pre-purchased our tickets. I highly recommending pre-purchasing the tickets as the line was quite long.
The Food
When we entered the venue my partner and I were a little worried as the first thing we came across was the food stalls. We were hoping that it would turn into an event where they would be just pushing sales. Luckily that wasn’t the case.
We had a quick wander around the stalls to see if there was any interesting Japanese food to try and came across fresh Taiyaki. This is something that we have been keen to try for a while after having the frozen variety. The dessert was delicious and it was fascinating to watch them make it.
The Cherry Blossoms
Moving onto the main reason why we came to the event, we found the start of the path and slowly made our way in. The festival had been designed in a loop which makes it easy to get around. However, a large number of people and narrow paths mean that is hard to walk around slow movers at the beginning of the track, you just have to be patient. This does get better towards the middle of the walk.
Each key area has heaps of flowers making it easy to take a photo without too many people in the background.
There were also a few odd installations including the fake flowers which are quite pretty but feel a little out of place.
The garden itself feels fresh and light, with a water feature in the middle and many geese who have taken up residence in the park.
Overall
The flowers were absolutely beautiful! If you haven’t been before I highly recommend taking a look it happens every year at about August/September. If you can, try to go during the week when there will be fewer people.
