Early one Saturday morning my friend message me asking if I would like to join her at Polo in the City as her friend was no longer able to attend. I immediately said yes and jumped up to get ready. This was when the panic set in a little because I realised that my nails were very chipped and needed a fresh coat of polish.
I quickly got dressed, applied makeup and then began work on my nails, sticking to a simple colour to ensure it would dry as much as possible. After getting ready in record time, I headed down to a local cafe to have breakfast with my partner who was working in the morning.
Getting to Polo in the City
I walked to the train and boarded for my Journey to Centennial Park which required 1 train and 1 bus. I headed into the park and began to look for the venue. Unfortunately, the signage was terrible. Lucky I saw some other people dressed similar to me and started to follow them as they were sort of heading in the direction where I believe the event was. Eventually, I made it and provided directions to my friend. This is certainly one area that the event can improve on.
Whilst I was waiting for my friend I had heaps of fun photographing the local wildlife. Especially the bluebird who squeaked at me for being too close despite the fact that the bird walked towards me! lol
We eagerly headed in finding our area. The drinks and food were included in the tickets which were fantastic! So we started out with a glass of champagne and wine while waiting for the game to start.
Food and Drink
For most of the day, I drank champagne and water! I may have been slightly tipsy at by the end of the event! The food was a mix of canapes and larger items followed by dessert. Most of the canapes were delicious although the salmon one just didn’t taste right and both my friend and I agreed that it needed to be colder. Apart from that all of the other dishes were amazing.
The Game
So back to the real reason of attending, the polo game. This is my very first time watching a polo match and I was keen for the experience. The first game began just after 12 pm. We chose our teams that we would support and the game began. It was really exciting to watch and a very fast pace game. After a short half time break the second half of the game begun before we knew it the game was over!
This next part I wasn’t expecting. Everyone was asked to walk out onto the pitch to help with putting the grass back into place. It was great to stretch our legs and go for a short walk. Although I really don’t know how the girls in stilettos were able to do this?
The first half of the second game commenced shortly after and this again was fast-paced and exciting! However, for the break of game 2, there were a few activities. Firstly a short running race to win a wine voucher! The girls raced first and wow they were vicious!! I kept getting pulled at and pushed. Don’t ever believe someone who said that women aren’t violent! The men’s race followed shortly after. Which was fun to watch. I’m not sure if they had the same experience as the ladies. Following a bit of a break, the fashions on the field event began with both a men and women’s comp. Anyone wanting to enter just self-nominated.
We had a little more of a walk around before leaving the field in preparation of the 2nd half of the last match. The break in the middle was a lot of fun and was a fantastic surprise.
The second half of the match 2 commenced and people were definitely a lot more active with more people aligned long the rope. The match was intense with a few close moments as the ball nearly hit the crowd.
Overall
I felt so lucky to have the opportunity to attend Polo in the City. It was so much fun and a great way to spend a Saturday. If you ever get the chance I highly recommend going!
