With Avengers End Game being released this week, I couldn’t resist creating some Avengers Nail Art! If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend checking it out. It really lives up to all the hype. The only problem was that I don’t have any stamping plates that would work and as you may have seen in previous posts my freehand isn’t great. I originally thought that I would be able to create some decals with the water decal paper, however, the colours I selected wouldn’t work with the decals. So they will have to be used another time. Instead, I ended up doing some freehand but not in the traditional sense.
The base colour
I started the base colour with my go-to black, Blackout by Maybelline. This polish is a one coater, that dries quickly and is relatively long lasting for the price. I love using it as a base for different designs, or if I just feel like wearing black polish.
After applying a single black layer I wanted to add some colour, so I overlayed the polish with ILNP – Deep End. Deep End is a dark blue and purple polish that changes colour depending on what angle you look at it. It’s also filled with holo glitter which really shines at night and in the sun. When applied over the black polish, it gave the colour a bit of space feel. I was hoping that a few coats of Deep End would lighten the black polish but after seeing the space effect I left the base as is. Additionally, it would have been painful to remove and I would rather delay that by a week.
Freehand Avengers Nail Art
With my inability to create freehand nail art, I had to think of a method outside of the box to get at least something related to Avengers on my nails preferably without doing freehand. I could have just left my nails as they were, and I nearly did leave them but I was determined to add a bit extra. So, in the end, I gave in and attempted a freehand Avengers ‘A’ symbol. It did not go well and was immediately removed.
I then pulled out every tool that I had, all my brushes, dotting tools and wooden sticks that I could find. I decided to practice the shape on my stamping mat (nb this is an affiliate link. It won’t cost you anything but will give me a small reimbursement). Finally, after about 30 attempts I managed to get one ‘A’ Avengers symbol that I was happy with.
It wasn’t perfect but it was the best that I was able to create and the closest to the symbol itself. Similar to the reverse stamping technique, applied a clear layer of polish over the top and waited for it to dry. This was probably one of the most nerve-racking reverse stamping lifts. I feel I should have waited a little longer as it was still a little soft. However, as it was already over 1/2 way lifted I had to keep going. I then gently placed it on my nail trying to get the placement right. It landed on a bit of an angle, but I liked how it turned out.
After the adventure to create a single ‘A’. It was at this point I gave in and left my nails as they were. At least one hand had avengers related nail art on it and the space theme set the scene.
Overall
This design ended up challenging me far more than I had hoped it would. Still, in the end, the design turned out and it looks like I can do some freehand nail art I just have to use the stamping mat until I’m happy with the design.
Let me know in the comments, have you seen the new Avengers Movie? What did you think?
