This post follows on from Part 1 of my Canberra trip. If you haven’t already, have a read of part 1 here.
Day 2: Lunch
We noticed a small cafe with an Ona sign so we headed for the Ona on the Lawn, not realising it was another Ona location. I thought they were just using the Ona coffee. The cool thing about each Ona branch is that they have their own variations on the food. We each ordered a chicken burger and cold brew coffee. With the storm coming in, it was getting quite humid, so a cold drink was quite refreshing. The meals were just as good as the original Ona, and I couldn’t believe how close it was to the hotel.
Day 2: Parliament House, Dinner and Dessert
During the eye of the storm we raced back to the hotel, luckily I had my umbrella with me. With much of the afternoon left, we decided to check out parliament house again. We had visited before but it was good to explore again especially with the wet weather.
Since I last visited they have added a model of parliament house made from Lego. This had a few awesome touches such as Star Wars characters and the money tree.
Following our short walk around parliament house, we headed to Braddon where many great restaurants can be found. The place we first intended to go was shut so we waited it out in the car. It eventually slowed down enough that we could walk around without getting too wet. However, the umbrella was still in the boot. Luckily I am still able to climb over the seats into the back so that I could access my boot without getting wet. We wandered a little down the street to see what we could find. We came across Yat Bun Tong, a Chinese restaurant. The food was great, very standard westernised Chinese food. It was so nice to also have some hot tea after being caught in the rain. The service was pretty good as well.
Of course, some dessert was needed! As we were in the area we headed to Frugii Dessert Labarority. Even if we weren’t in the area we would have made the trip to Frugiis. My partner and I selected the lemon myrtle and hot cross bun flavours. We also got a cherry ripe dessert. The ice creams were true to their descriptions.
Each layer of the cherry ripe dessert works well together. Each had its own unique flavour, but together they created a magical dessert.
I highly recommend trying out Frugii’s if you’re in Canberra.
Day 3: State Library and Time to Head Home
For our last day, we started out with Ona for breakfast heading to the Fyshwick branch. I got the Ona roll again, changing up the sauce. I also changed coffee, to the founder blend.
After breakfast, we headed to the State Library. Everyone must have had the same idea as the car park was full. We were lucky that person whose spot I grabbed as they were leaving gave us their ticket which still had 30 minutes remaining. We headed in exploring the library and checking out the cartoon exhibition.
For our final stop, we visited Canberra Central shopping centre to pick up a few last supplies for the trip back including another coffee. We found a place in the centre that used Ona Coffee called the Green House. For a shopping centre cafe, it was a pretty nice place and the coffee was well made.
Overall
This was such a fun trip! It was really nice to get out of the city and just relax. If you’re looking for a relaxing weekend away I highly recommend taking a trip to Canberra.
