In my 20 for $20 from Manology, I received the cutest puzzle vinal decals that I have been hanging out to create some puzzle nail art. I’ve had a few designs that I wanted to complete first and I wasn’t sure which colours I was going to use with the puzzle shapes. This is the first time using this style of decal before. In the past, I have always use the style where the stickers/decals would remain on my fingers. So I was looking forward to seeing how this would turn out.
The Base
I started out with a light purple base using OPI – Poly want a lacquer. You would have seen me use this polish in many other designs, and still remains to be one of my favourite purple polishes. I applied two coats to achieve full opaqueness. If this was the only colour being applied I would apply 3 coats as the formula is quite thin. The thin formula does have its benefits as it dries really quickly.
Puzzle Nail Art
I started this part out quite confidently. I selected a new colour, OPI – Less is Norse, a dark purple that I got a few weeks ago. Surprisingly compared to my other OPI’s the polish is quite thick.
I applied just one of the stickers at first to see how this would go. Just as I was about to apply the polish over the stencil the sticker started to lift. Luckily I noticed before applying the polish I pressed the sticker down again and quickly applied the polish. Unfortunately, the stickers lifting left me with 4 nails that I had to start from scratch. However, the end result was pretty cool so it was worth it to persevere and finish each nail. The lifting stickers were good in that it made them easy to remove, I just wish they stuck down a little more.
Overall
I got so much positive feedback on this design! This puzzle nail art turned into a really fun design. I would love to give this another go with other colours. However, I might have to wait a while to get over the lifting decals issue.
