Vivid 2019 | A Yearly Tradition

About a week before heading out to Vivid the weather in Sydney was still quite warm so we were hopeful that it would stay that way for our planned Vivid 2019 visit. Unfortunately, a cold snap hit and it was freezing but at least it wasn’t raining. Still, we headed out keen to see what Vivid had to offer.

Dinner

The first stop of the evening’s adventures was somewhere for dinner so we hit up Vapiano, which was selected by my friend. I was quite happy with Italian as I had a few drinks before and was wanting some carbs. Its a great spot as most food preferences can be covered and the food is pretty tasty. The only complexity is getting someone to save the table. Generally, if I’m with my partner as well one of us will grab the food while the other saves the table.

I didn’t capture any food pics, however, I decided it would be a good idea to take a picture of the rosemary and basil on the table, which I love picking off and adding to my dish.

With our bellies full we headed out into the cold with the hope that it wouldn’t be too bad once we started moving.

We started our journey in Darling Harbour which greeted us with a giant robot. The robot features a light show that interacted a little with the barge in the centre of the harbour. There was also a screen inside the robot.

We started to feel the cold a little, so we headed into Lindt cafe for a hot chocolate. I’m pretty sure they took our order wrong but we just went with it as we all ended up with something close to what we ordered. As we left we stopped to admire the giant mushrooms on the outside of the cafes.

Continuing the adventure we headed to the ferry, to get around to darling harbour. The ferry isn’t just a good short cut, it’s also a great way to get an excellent vantage view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

Botanical Gardens and The Rocks

Onto the second part of our journey, we headed into the Botanical Gardens. Over the past few years, this area has really shined. It has heaps to see and with the crowd going in the same direction, it makes it easier to move to each exhibit.

One of the first exhibits we came across was an interactive drum set. It seemed to respond to how often you tapped it, the more frequent that you tapped the drum the brighter it would become.

As we moved our way around we found some beautiful exhibits. I absolutely loved playing with the blades of grass.

Eventually, we made it out heading towards the rocks area.

The Rocks

The first exhibit we reached was a Samsung sponsored area the were some cool tiles where you needed to jump to each one that lit up in order, which was good fun. We then came across a hula hoop which was so much fun! Plus I discovered I can still somewhat hula hoop.

Moving around the rocks area we found ‘BUG HUNT’. A game where you could vs your friend to see how many bugs you could eat using two controls one for up/down, the other for left/right. Unfortunately, my friend’s controller was broken but it was still heaps of fun.

Finally, at the end of our adventure, we came across the dancers. It was so funny to see a group trying to copy the poses.

Overall

I was glad in the end it was so cold as it appeared to keep a lot of the crowd away which made the atmosphere much more enjoyable. 2019 was a great year for vivid, I hope it’s just as fun next year.
