This design began by choosing the base colour. I wanted to do something sparkly. However, I didn’t want it too overbearing so I choose to either apply some nail stamping or decals to the design. From here I created my Green Geometric Shape Nail Art.
The Base
I started out with UNT Peel off base coat. Which also resulted in disaster. For the first time, it actually worked only a little too well. A few designs started lifting and needed a touch of clear polish to reattach the design. I managed to secure the lifting designs and to my surprise didn’t loose any during the week. I really recommend not having a hot shower or cooking hot food straight after applying the peel off base coat. I did both these things (despite knowing better) and well this was the result. At least they were able to be rescued.
For the base colour, I chose ILNP – Hide and Seek, a bright green polish with beautiful mini holo pieces throughout. It is a colour that I can get away with wearing on its own but I still wanted to tone it down. It takes quite a few coats to have an opaque finish, so I will sometimes add a base colour first. However, I didn’t want to change the colour too much so I just applied lots of coats instead.
Green Geometric Nail Art
To create the Geometric shapes I used decals (BM-NW002) that are the same size as my nails similar to the ‘no dry polish’ that color street does. This was the second time I’ve used a decal like this and the first time didn’t go so well. So I was feeling a bit nervous.
I lifted one of the decals and applied it to a nail taking care to ensure the placement was correct. If I tried to move the decal it would lift up the base polish. Once it was smooth on my nail it, using a nail file I removed the excess.
This round of application was a lot more successful and I loved the end result. The only thing I had an issue with was the heaviness that I felt on my nails. By mid-week, I really wanted to take off all of my nail polish but I held out until the weekend.
Overall
I loved the end result of this design. The black and white over the top added an awesome dimension to the design. However, I don’t think I will use this style decal again. I might be open to trying another type down the track but for now, I’m steering clear. I would rather feel comfortable than having the weight on my nails.
Have you used full-sized decals before? What were your thoughts?
