This week I was a little stumped on what to do on my nails. So I went back to my goal of using each plate at least once. I’ve been eying off a bug plate for a while but felt a little intimidated by it. I think this was because it was such a busy plate. Worse case it doesn’t work and I could create some different decals, so I set out to create a Bugs Life – Nail Art.

The Base
I started out with Glam Polish – Alohomora! I may have bought this polish just for the name but I also really love the colour. Unfortunately, it took 4 coats to become opaque which is the only downside. Applying a base colour for this design was out of the question as I really wanted to capture the green and not detract from it.
A Bugs Life – Nail Art
For this design, I used Manilogy (aka Bundle Monster) plate BM-S170 that I picked up in the 20 for $20 pack. Using BMC – Nail Lacquer – Tree of Life, a dark green I created the outline stamping this onto my stamping mat (get your own stamping mat here). Oddly I found the Jelly stamper worked better with the BMC polish.
Wanting to create some bright coloured bugs I used the following for the reverse stamping:
- BMC – Nail Lacquer – Kandi Spirit (pink)
- MUD – Caribbean Sky – (bright blue)
- OPI – The IT Color (Orange)
Having let each design dry I added the coat of clear and then went off to start a few things for dinner. If I sit at my desk waiting for it to dry I tend to lift it off the mat too early.
Overall
I loved how this turned out, I received quite a few compliments including that one of the bugs kinda looked like a skull lol! It sort of did because the eyes were damaged. Let me know what your thoughts are.
