Shoe Nail Art | Tutorial

Coloured French Manicure

I know that my freehand isn’t the greatest which is probably why I’ve put this shoe nail art design off for a while. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, so I finally took the plunge in creating this design. I’m sure if you give this a go it will turn out a lot neater. If you do try this design out tag me (@theNailChronicle) or leave a comment below.

The Base

I used 5 different colours for this design. You could use any colours you like or just use a single colour. I think both options would look great. I used Nails Inc Polish including:

  • Blue – Baker Street
  • Green – Queen Victoria Street
  • Orange – Porchester Place
  • Purple – St John’s Wood
  • Pink – St James Park
  • Black – Black Taxi

I applied the colours on the matching fingers for each hand (ie the blue was applied to my thumb on both hands). I was going to just apply one coat as I was only going to wear this design for a few days but felt the colours needed a little more opacity so I added a second coat.

Once completely dry I used french manicure guidelines applied to the base of my nail to create a curved black base on the nail. This created the tip of the shoe.

The next stage made use of my dotting tools. I started with a medium-large sized dotting tool to create the points where the laces would go. I made six dots on each nail trying to keep them in line. If you have short nails you could either just add 4 dots or make the dots smaller.

Switching to my smallest dotting tool I began to add the laces in. This was the hardest step for this design. If you are more comfortable I would use a small brush for this step.

Let the polish dry for a while and then add a coat of clear polish. This will also smooth any bumps left from using the manicure guide stickers.

Overall

This was such a fun design to create! I ended up only creating the design on my right hand because I loved the effect of having the black lines at the bottom of each colour. I’m thinking that I might create something similar but with a single colour.

Let me know in the comments would you attempt this design? If you do don’t forget to share your design in the comments below!
