My Australia Day Nail Art 2020 design started with some planning on paper. Typically I would just plan the design in my head but I had so many ideas floating around and I wasn’t sure what path I would take to create my Austalia Day Nail Art.

Australia Day Nail Art 2020 Design
I had already decided that I wanted to do ombre on least some of my nails. So I started to write out the colours that I would apply to the various images on the stamping plate. I saw that blue was popping up a lot so I went with this as my base theme colour. I then quickly drew up a hand to plan out where the images would go.
The Base – Blue Ombre
I’ve done quite a few ombre designs in the past as it’s one of my favourite nail art techniques. For 2020 I’m hoping to do more ombre nails.
I started the base with a coat of white polish. As I’m going to be applying the ombre on top I only added one layer, so it did look a little patchy but that’s ok as it’s going to be covered.
I then applied my latex barrier ahead of the ombre. This stops all of the mess getting onto my fingers and makes cleanup super easy. I applied a stripe of the dark blue, light blue and white the sponge gently dabbing it on my nail. Before trying to do another layer ensure you wait for the first layer to completely dry otherwise the sponge will destroy the first layer. If you start from one finger and complete your whole hand before starting round 2 this is generally enough time for the layers to dry. Continue until you are happy with the coverage. Don’t worry if it’s not smooth the topcoat will fix that.
Apply the topcoat to smooth out the ombre before moving onto the next step.
Australia Day Nail Stamping
The second stage of this design is the nail stamping. I used maniology plate BM-XL160 from the around the world series 2.

Using konad black stamping polish, I carefully applied each image to the nail. I found that the black was slightly hidden by the darkest blue shade in the ombre. Because of this, I aimed for the remaining images to be placed as close as possible to the bottom of my nail.
After finishing the stamping I waited a while to ensure the stamps were fully dry before applying the final topcoat.
Overall
I had a lot of fun creating this design! For those in Australia, I hope you have a fantastic Australia Day.
