I know, I am supper late on this post but these nails really could be create at any time of the yeh. I used a Halloween stamping plate to create this valentine’s day nail design. That sounds odd, but this design was created by @gilby83_nails. We agreed to do a mani swap and I needed to be a little creative to recreate this design as I didn’t have the same stamping plates. It was an interesting process to try to recreate the Valentines Day nail design.
Valentines Day Nail Design – The Base
I lost count of how many times I referred to @gilby83_nails design throughout this whole process. By continually checking back I was able to make sure that I was on the right track and didn’t stray too far from the design.
The base of @gilby83_nails design was light pink in the middle with a subtle dark line around the edge. I knew that I would struggle to re-create this part of this design, so I just aimed to get as close as possible. By experimenting on my stamping mat to see what shade would work best, I found the two shades that I wanted to use.
I applied two coats of Maniology’s (BMC) shade Kandi Spirit a bright pink. This was far too bright for the design, so using a sponge I gently dabbed a single layer of OPI, Let’s be Friends from their Hello Kitty Collection. I was aiming to focus the sponge in the centre of the nail but it looked odd so I just covered the entire nail.
Nail Stamping for Valentines Day
Three maniology plates were used in the stamping component.
I started with plate M091 as this had the beautiful cursive text for the two outer fingers. I also used this plate for the centre image. The words themselves are different from the original design but the cursive text meant that it would look similar. For the large text on the centre finger, I also needed to create a border. I used Halloween plate BM-XL192 from the Happily Never After collection. This plate has a beautiful corner pattern perfect for the nail with the large text.
The next stage was the rose. As I didn’t have a rose image I used a different flower from plate BM-723. I also capture the leaf image from this plate. I applied the images together on my stamping mat so that I could add some colour. OPI, Tell me about it stud was used for the red flower and OPI, My Dog Sled is a Hybrid for the green flower. Once it began to dry I added OPI start to finish top coat so that I could pick up the whole image.
I added one last touch by stamping the word love on the same name as the rose.
Overall
This was my first mani swap and it was so much fun! I’d be up for doing this again. So if you would like to do a mani swap send me an IM on Instagram (@TheNailChronicle). I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Whilst it doesn’t look exactly the same I got pretty close.
