I bought OPI Stir-Fried Eggplant on a bit of a whim! I was in the chemist waiting and came across the discount nail polish stand which can be rather dangerous. There was a whole heap of OPI polishes for $5 so I had a look through eventually finding two polishes that I liked the look of. One was a purple that I’m I’ll be swatching in a few weeks time. The other is OPI Stir-fried Eggplant. Read on to find out why I gave this polish a low score of 1/5.
OPI Stir-Fried Eggplant
In the bottle, the polish appears to be a beautiful black polish filled with a lot of glitter. I love that the glitter has a red, coppery colour to it. The colour itself is quite unique which is why I selected it.
When I applied I first coat I found the black polish was more on the brown side but that was ok as it worked well with the glitter. There is defiantly no shortage of glitter in the bottle that makes application easy. In total, I applied three coats.
The polish dried pretty quickly but had a very rough finish to it. More then you would expect for a glitter polish. I was hopeful that the clear polish would smooth it out as is normally the case.
I applied two coats yet it still felt pretty rough. So I added a third coat that made some difference but it still wasn’t as smooth as I was expecting.
In terms of wear, the polish felt heavy. I know that might sound odd but if you have felt it before you will I know what I mean. The heaviness was there before I applied the three topcoats. It really annoyed me during the week and if I had taken my pictures sooner, I would have most likely removed it after a few days. It didn’t have a nice finish to it at all.

Overall (1/5)
Normally I would give my scores based on a common set of criteria like the one for Tickle My France-y Swatch. If I was using the scoring mechanism the polish would get around 4/5. It was good value for money, dried quickly, had good opacity and bottle design. But in this instance, I really don’t feel that the score reflects how I feel about the polish.
The heaviness and rough finish really let it down. It doesn’t perform how I was expecting and didn’t look like it does in the bottle. Which can happen colours change slightly when they dry however the end result was nowhere near the expectation.
I think this is the first polish that I am considering just throwing out. I’ll have a think if I can do something more productive before I do. But honestly, I can’t see myself using this ever again.
That looks lovely. I prefer smooth and shiny designs on my nails. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Me too!! Definitely too rough for my preference
I think it looks okay and don’t mind a rough polish! I am a texture fan though!
