Mysterious creatures and cabinets of curiosities are made for Halloween. From science experiments to scary creatures this stamping plate was made for Halloween nail art. This year I’ll be creating 4 Halloween Nail art designs, this is the first of my 2020 design. Each design will include an accompanying YouTube video so that you can easily follow along and create your own Halloween nails at home. This first design, Cabinet of Curiosities Halloween Nails, uses a combination of stamping and reverse stamping.

OPI – Lost my Bikini in Molokini
This design started out with a purple base colour, Lost my Bikini in Molokini by OPI. I felt that the purple would work with some of the colours I was planning to use with the reverse stamping.
I’ll be putting a swatch up after this Halloween series. However, I will say that the formula is quite thick which made it a little challenging to apply. However, it was still workable and ended up having a really nice finish.
Cabinet of Curiosities Halloween Nails
To create this spooky Cabinet of Curiosities Halloween Nail Art, I used Maniology’s plate BM-S241 (for 10% off Maniology use my code THENAILCHRONICLE). I’ve had this plate for a while. Receiving it after Halloween, it took me a while to get around to using it. Additionally one of my goals was to use each of my plates at least once, so I’m really glad that Halloween is just around the corner.
Using Face of Australia, Cool Cotton I stamped a few images onto my stamping mat. I also added a few images to the black areas on my stamping mat so that I could clearly see the lines. I had intended to use black stamping polish but given the purple was a little darker then I thought it would be I was worried it would be hard to see. For those who might be wondering how I used a non-stamping polish, it is possible with certain polishes especially older ones that are a bit thicker. Sometimes you might need to work a bit quicker to grab the image or use a solid stamper rather than a clear stamper. If might just take a few experiments.
For the reverse stamping, I used Natio – Dune a light nude shade for the brain and part of the lungs. I also used OPI, Tell me about it Stud a red polish that was used on the heart. For the clear over the reverse stamping, I used Maniology Smudge Free Top Coat (don’t forget for 10% off Maniology use my code THENAILCHRONICLE).
After carefully lifting each image and placing on my nail I finished the design off with a topcoat.
Overall
This Cabinet of Curiosities Halloween Nails design turned out really well! Much better then what I had in my head. The only thing I would change is to have a slightly lighter base coat. I especially love how the brain and heart turned out! Let me know in the comments which image is your favourite?
