Abattoir Blues – Sydney Olympic Park | Sydney Food Review

Abattoir Blues - lasagna

I first visited Abattoir Blues back in November 2020. My partner and I had a great experience that we decided to visit again with a friend just before Christmas 2020, so this review will be a combo of both those visits as both were very similar.

Abattoir Blues – Menu and Service

Located in Sydney Olympic Park, Abattoir Blues is a cool Bistro style restaurant where you can sit either outside or inside. Surrounded by trees and historic buildings, combined with the beautiful decor the spot is quite relaxing.

On both visits, we were greeted as soon as we entered by the super friendly staff. As they were quiet on the days that we visited we were able to pick where we sat. For the first visit, we chose outside and for the second visit, we sat inside as it looked like it was going to rain.

As soon as we sat down we were instructed to head to the link via the QR code to sign in (Covid safety requirement before the service NSW one was required) and use the same link to view the menu. I love that we weren’t handling physical menus especially with Covid-19 on our doorstep and both were accessible via the same link.

Our orders were then taken by the waiters which I prefer and it adds a nice element into the experience.

It was really humid when we visited which is why the white wine looks a little foggy!

The Food

On our first visit, I selected the lasagna which was amazing! Lasagna is one of my favourite Italian dishes, that I haven’t had for a very long time. So this was the perfect treat. It was really well balanced between the pasta and sauce.

My partner chose the ragu which was delicious!!

Our eyes may have been bigger than our stomachs so we also got some garlic bread which was sooo good. And yes somehow we finished it all. It was way too tasty to leave behind!

On our second visit, I got the 4 cheese gnocchi (apparently I really like tempting fate with my lactose intolerance!). This dish was so good, I loved the flavour of the cheeses. My partner got the ravioli and my friend chose the beef. Both said their dishes were great!!

Also on our second visit, my friend and I selected a rose tea drink that had the most amazing flavour. I had eyed this drink on my first visit but felt like wine. I’m really glad I swapped my drink choice as this so was refreshing and favourable.

Overall – 4/5

Both experiences were amazing! I will definitely be heading back soon. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic and some of the best lasagna that I have had in ages.

I highly recommend visiting!

    1. Yeh, I def very lucky I’m able to get away with eating it. Although eventually, it catches up with me. It would really suck to react so strongly to it! I hope you have access to lots of dairy alt options

      1. Yes you are! I miss real cheesecake! Scotland is great for dairy free options. We really cater for all sorts of diet needs over here! Thankfully haha!
