One Friday night we were tagging along on an errand and decided to check out the bargain nail polish as you never know what you might find. I was shocked to come across two different Sally Hansen collab polishes at a great price. So I grabbed them both plus a few others. Mentos Sally Hansen The Fresh Maker isn’t a shade that I would normally gravitate towards. However, I was really curious and grabbed it anyway so that I could give it a go!
Mentos Sally Hansen The Fresh Maker – Nail Polish Swatch and Review
I started out with a fairly thin first coat of The Fresh Maker and found it to be quite sheer. I could see that this shade would be quite a sheer style but I had a feeling that with the blue dots it wouldn’t look too bad. The brush is the perfect width. It’s not too thin and provides great coverage across my nail. This made the polish really easy to apply.
As I moved onto the 2nd coat my worries about this being too shear decreased. The polish started coming to life and as I was allowing it to dry I almost considered leaving it at two coats as I will be adding some stamping over the top. In the end, I landed on three coats. It just needed that little bit extra depth of colour.
Similar to other Insta-dry polishes that I have used I found that it didn’t dry that quickly. Rather it felt like it took quite a bit longer than my OPI polishes as an example. I also find that the polish takes quite a while to harden up and so I have to be extra careful to not damage it for a few hours.
In terms of wear, it held up really well. There was only some minor wear on the tips of my nails which is barely visible and a little cracking on my thumb. I even ended up wearing this for a second week as I really didn’t want to remove it! This was even after I had washed my Car after the one week point.
Overall
Despite it taking forever to apply due to the dry time I love this polish. The way the dots faded a little as I added layers on top added some really cool depth to the polish.
- Bottle Design
- Colour/Opaque
- The drying time
- Chip resistance –
- Value for Money – – based on what I paid for the polish. I think it may have cost more when first released
I ended up adding some cute pastel dessert images to my nails which worked so well with the blue dots! Keep an eye out for next week’s post for all the details.
