For this year’s Australia Day Nail Art design I wanted to go with a gold and green design while adding some nail stamping using one of my Maniology plates. I have done green and gold for Australia Day in the past so I’m changing it up by doing more of a sideways ombre than the traditional down the nail ombre.

Australia Day Nail Art – The classic green and gold
For this ombre I started out with a light green, Mighty Mint by Color by TBN on my thumb and pinky. For the next two fingers, I applied a stripe down one side of the nail with the green. Before they had the chance to fully dry I added a stripe of yellow down the other side. For the middle nail, I completely covered that in the yellow polish, Notting Hill Carnival by Nails Inc.
Both polishes are quite thin so I needed three coats of each before moving on to the next stage.
Adding some iconic Aussie images
The plate I used for this design was Around the World 2 – BM-XL150 (get 10% off Maniology using my discount code THENAILCHRONICLE). I decided to theme each hand differently. One would have a beach theme and the other would be outback themed.
With the bright yellow and green there was already a lot going on with this design so I decided to stick to simple stamping rather than reverse stamping. I also didn’t want to go with black for the stamping as it would stand out just that little bit too much. After looking through all the stamping polishes for something that would work on both the yellow and green, I selected a Dark Navy Blue, Midnight Madness by BMC aka Maniology (just a reminder you can get 10% off with code THENAILCHRONICLE. I know the navy blue is still really dark but it doesn’t stick out as much as the black would. Plus it works with both yellow and green.
For the four nails that had both green and yellow, my goal was to line up the centre of the image as much as possible with the line between the two colours using a clear Maniology Monocle stamper.
To finish off the design I used Maniology smudge-free topcoat, followed by Revlon Quick Dry topcoat.
Overall
This was a really fun design to create and I love how it turned out. The bright colours aren’t too bright but they have a summery vibe.
What design would you create for Australia Day?? Or your national holiday?
