We finally got a blessing from the weather gods with a clear day, meaning we were able to head towards Frenchman Peak and Stonehenge. As Stonehenge was on the way we decided that it would make sense to do these together on the same day.
Stonehenge
After a short drive out of Esperance, we reached the replica Stonehenge. The first stop for our exploration of Frenchman Peak and Stonehenge. There is an entry fee to visit, with it covered fully by walls making it hard to see from other areas. It was pretty cool walking around the site, but we probably only spend around 10 minutes there at most. Some of that time was just waiting for another group to finish up photos so that we could take one in the centre of the circle.
While it was fascinating, I don’t know if it was worth the money to visit. I think I would rather see the real one, which is on my bucket list.
Unless you really want to see it, I would consider missing this attraction, I just felt it that wasn’t value for money.
Frenchman Peak
About another 30minutes drive, we reach Frenchman Peak which is in the Cape Le Grand National Park. You can buy a park pass upon entry. Or if you plan ahead and are heading to a few parks grab a pass for 1 or 12 months for 1/2 price from RAC if you have a membership.
There are quite a few things to do in the national park itself so I recommend checking out the website for the full details.
When you enter you are given a park map, which was really helpful in finding our way to the two locations.
First up was Frenchman Peak. The parking was pretty limited and this spot was really popular. Luckily we were able to grab a spot. The pathway to the base of the peak is really easy to follow. We started climbing when we reached a very steep point. I was assured that once you got over this really hard part it got easier from there. My partner had stopped at the really steep part, which I nearly did as well but I decided to keep going.
The view was amazing. Just utterly beautiful.
Going down was harder at times than going up, especially with my poor sense of direction and difficulty following the directional markers, meaning I often ended up taking the more difficult route.
This was one of the most challenging walks I have ever done. I was glad to have done it but I’m not in a rush to repeat the experience.
Lucky Bay – Beach
Having worked up a sweat, we headed towards Lucky Bay, a beach famous for the local Kangaroos. The beach is located in the national park and was really easy to find. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any roos, but that didn’t stop me from taking a quick dip!
The water was freezing and there had been a recent shark sighting so I decided to just quickly take a dip in the shallow water to cool off which was more than enough.
With our adventure complete, we headed back into town for a pie.
As it was a pretty warm day we also walked down to Aurelia’s Ice Creamery and Cafe for ice cream. They had some really cool flavours and the ice cream was delicious!!
Loose Goose Bar & Restaurant
For dinner, we decided to check out Loose Goos Bar & Restaurant. I booked this before our trip to ensure that we were able to get in as it was one of the highly recommended places to visit.
For the entree, we had some herb/garlic bread, which arrived as thick slices that were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was full of flavour and a great way to start the meal.
We then both picked a main each and a side dish to share. I decided to get the fish which featured a local catch!
This was followed by some really tasty dessert.
Overall everything was amazing and I’d definitely recommend visiting.
Next Stop Kalgoorlie
After tiring ourselves out from the visit to Frenchman Peak and Stonehenge. Next up on our adventure is Kalgoorlie which is supposed four-hour drive from Esperance…
