Ramen for breakfast! Yes please!

Rising Sun Workshop - Breakfast Ramen

Rising Sun Workshop

My partner and I were looking a cool place that would be opened on Anzac Day so that we could catch up with our friends. Through our search, we came across the Rising Sun Workshop in Newtown. The menu intrigued us. With both Ramen and Bibimbap listed on the breakfast, I was sold. Because of the location, we decided to visit Rising Sun the day before Anzac Day.

With an appointment scheduled for 9 am we ensured that we arrived as soon as the cafe opened.  We found our way to a table on the ground floor. It was fascinating looking around at the workshop. There were a lot of interesting bikes scattered around the cafe. I loved the personal touch in which staff would hang their aprons and coats on a hook under a drawing of each staff member.

The coffee

Very quickly after sitting down we were greeted by an incredibly friendly staff member who took our coffee order. We both went for our usual order of a skinny cap. I had completely forgotten about the Fizzy Bubbler an espresso with sparkling & lime. So I will definitely be ordering this upon our next visit.

The coffee was perfect. It wasn’t burnt and the blend was delicious. If I had time I would have ordered another to take away.

The food

From the minute that I saw the Breakfast ramen, I knew that I had to try it. The noodles were perfectly cooked with a soft buttery sauce. The bacon was crisp and the egg just a little runny which blended with the flavours. The tomato was full of flavour and really helped to balance the dish. Overall the dish was very rich and I wish that I had shared it with someone. Despite the richness, I would get it again.

My partner ordered the Hokkaido Milk Bun #1 with no egg (he just doesn’t like egg). To our surprise, the waitress offered to substitute the egg with another ingredient that he either could choose or be surprised with. My partner chose to be surprised. Most places either just remove the item or occasion refuse to remove the ingredient at all. The surprise ingredient turned out to be avacoade!! It worked perfectly with the spicy sauce, crispy bacon and beautiful soft roll.

Summary

The food and coffee were amazing. I am keen to go back and try their other interesting dishes. Additionally, the service was fantastic the staff are super friendly. Rising Sun Workshop is certainly on my list to revisit in the very near future.
