Review: Essie – Go Overboard

Essie - Go Overboard with stamping

Welcome back! This review is rather exciting as its the first time EVER that I am using an Essie polish. I’ve seen Essie pop up quite often and have been quite curious about it as most people seem to have quite positive experiences when using the Essie Brand. This polish was purchase as part of a larger buy that my fianceé purchased for me. I received this a few weeks back and have been hanging out to try any of the Essie colours that I received. As you will see in my YouTube video I choose this Essie colour as it paired amazingly with an ILNP polish that I have also been wanting to try.  If you have used Essie – Go Overboard or any other Essie polishes let me know in the comments below.

I have to start with the colour of this. The blue-green tones that shine through are absolutely beautiful. The colours that are visible really depend on the lighting that you are in. However, I found that most of the time the colour would remain as a quite dark turquoise. After drying the polish held its colour and didn’t fade or change significantly after application of the top coat which has occurred to some of the polishes that I have used.

The polish went onto the nail easily and I love the width of the brush. My only criticism is that the brush seems to be able to hold a lot more polish than other brushes and so I ended up having a sort of pen exploding situation. After my messy experience, I took more care to ensure there was minimal polish on the brush and had no further issues. I guess its just something I will have to remember when using the Essie polishes. The formula is quite thick and opaque. I could have easily used a single coat if I wanted to.

The bottle itself is stylish and classic. I think this is part of the reason why Essie caught my eye. The unique square design with a basic label is quite classy and honestly just looks nice on the shelf.

In terms of the wear, the polish lasted for the full week (I change my nails weekly). It hardly chipped and didn’t leave marks everywhere. Additionally I didn’t feel like I had to be gentle or careful with my nails.

The Design

I didn’t feel like going overboard with this design (yes the pun was intended :p ). So I started out with the classic accent nail, using an ILNP polish for the accent nail. This also allowed me to try new polishes as I was having trouble selecting which polish to use.

Although I enjoyed the plain design, I couldn’t resist adding some stamping. So using Konad stamping polish with a BMC plate I added some awesome patterns.
