Starting day 2 in Melbourne we woke early at 8 am and made our way down to Hardware Societe. Known for being one of the best brunch places in Melbourne, we wanted to ensure that we would get a seat without having to wait too long. I was really glad for my friend suggesting the early wake up as when we finished about 10 am this was the line:
Hardware Society
As we entered we were sat on a large round table. Unfortunately, the table was too big for space and so rather than being spread around the table we were squished on three-quarters of the table. However, I loved the wallpaper that was filled with beautiful butterflies.
The menu layout was a little confusing at first as one side was in French and the other side was in English. It took us a few moments to work out what was going on. I would prefer it to at least be labelled or a little note at the beginning of the menu, particularly as we weren’t quite awake yet.
I selected a strong soy cappuccino to drink and an egg and sausage roll. The roll also had the option of selecting smoked salmon.
The drinks arrived gradually. However when being served they didn’t clearly check who the drink belonged to and so two of the drinks were mixed up, resulting in one of the drinks having to be remade. The food seemed to take longer then I would expect the food to arrive, however it wasn’t too long.
The coffee was pretty good and the latte art was simply beautiful.
The roll was amazing. Melbourne seems to have a theme of using scrambled egg in their rolls which I love. I also saw the use of scrambled eggs at the Good Egg. The sausage wasn’t too oily and full of great quality meat. My only complaint was that there was too much food!
Overall
I really enjoyed my experience here despite it being a little squished. If you’re going to visit, I highly recommend going during the week. Or if you are planning to go on the weekend to Hardware Societe its a good idea to go early.
Overall 4/5
