Halloween Nail Art 2018 – Design 1 – Haunted House

Halloween Nail Art

Living in Australia, other than American movies we see Halloween isn’t a big thing over here. Although in the last few years it does seem to have become a little more popular. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of people going around and asking for lollies from people. However, I do love the decorations and my inner goth loves red and black colours! So when I saw that one of the groups I’m part of on Facebook were hosting a Halloween nail art competition I jumped right in. The competition requires you to re-create one of the designs as close as you can, without the use of stickers. However, stamping is allowed, thank goodness! My freehand art is terrible. I’m intending to complete two entries for Halloween 2018, however, I might do a third if I have time.

Halloween 2018 – Design 1

So given that I have to copy the design as part of the Halloween nail art competition I can’t claim any credit to the design itself. This is the design that I am trying to re-create. I selected it from the complex category because I wanted to challenge myself, I felt that this design was achievable for my skill set and I love the colours.

When planning on how I would do this design, I started with the base colours first. I chose OPI The IT Colour as the base.

OPI - The IT Color

It wasn’t until I had started applying the black that I noticed the yellow towards the bottom of the original image. So I decided to just go with the orange. I then moved onto the black, using liquid latex as a barrier. For the bottom of my nail, I used a french tip guiding sticker (psst masking tape also works). This ensured I created a straight line. I then sponged the black on the top of my nails. Happy with the base colour I moved onto the next stage.

Stamping

Now that I had completed my base colours I moved onto the stamping part of this design. Luckily I have some Halloween themed plates from Bundle Monster who are now known as Maniology (Get 10% off at Maniology use code THENAILCHRONICLE).

On my first hand, I did try a little freehand, while this looked ok, I prefer the look of the stamp.

Overall

Overall I’m happy with the result and feel like I was pretty close to the design. I wish it was a little neater but other than that I feel like it’s not a bad effort for my first Halloween nail art for 2018!

  2. I love your idea of nails art for Halloween! I have used that design many times, but not on my nails – in the adverts I used to design for this holiday. You have managed to create a really intricate design on your nails.

    1. A bit of nail polish remover. I use a make up brush for clean up. I’ve poped up the video so you can see how I did it 🙂

  3. I was curious how Halloween looks in Australia. I was in Australia in March. I spent St. Patricks day. Totally different, than in Ireland!

  4. That is so awesome! That looks like you’d have to have such steady hands for such delicate details. Good thing you have a stamp!
