Nail Art to advocate for Dyslexia – Light it Red for Dyslexia

valentines day nail art

You may not know this but this blog is made by Dyslexia. Given that October is light it red for dyslexia I decided to create some nail art to advocate for Dyslexia.

So why am I joining in?

Having dyslexia is one of the reasons it took me so long to start blogging. I was so worried that I would make a stupid mistake and what people would think. It particularly plays on my mind when writing guest posts. After all just looking at some of the comments on Facebook when someone has misspelt a word, it gets pretty nasty. However, sometimes people do point out mistakes in a nice way. So I finally took the plunge and created my blog. I’m really glad that I did start writing. It has allowed me to gain more confidence and when I have made a mistake people have let me know in a kind way.

I also want to advocate for more awareness of dyslexia so that kids are detected earlier in school life. For me, my dyslexia wasn’t picked up until high school. At that point, it’s far harder to do anything about it. This is why I created the following nail art to advocate for Dyslexia.

Nail Art to advocate for Dyslexia

For this design, I started with a white base except for the ring finger of each hand.  For the ring finger, I applied a few coats of ILNP – love me not, a vibrant red.

Red and White nail Art

Feeling that the design was a little plain I decided to add some stamping. Given that my dyslexia affects my writing I decided to stamped text onto my nails, using red polish keeping with the red theme.

I also created some red paper airplanes water decals to match the theme of this year’s event. To encourage people to get on board and for those with dyslexia to sore high! I intended for the planes to go over the top of the stamping.

Unfortuanlty the planes were too transparent so I wasn’t able to apply them. However, I have kept the planes in case I am able to use them for another design. To learn how to create your own water decals, check out my tutorial: How to create your own nail art decals.

Overall

Despite missing the airplanes, I loved how the design turned out especially the pop of red from the accent nail.

I hope this post provided some insight into dyslexia! To learn more check out the light it red for dyslexia campaign.

Keep an eye out on either Pinterest, Instagram or Twitter for more dyslexia facts over the next week.
