Unfortunately, I can’t make this year’s Sydney Mardi Gra, however, that hasn’t stopped me from filling my week with Rainbow Nail Art! In my head, I envisioned creating a beautiful ombre rainbow across my nails. This didn’t quite work out but I still love the final result.
Rainbow Nail Art
I started out with white for the base colour. When ombreing (if that’s a word??) I find that adding a base colour really helps to apply the other colours. I chose a white base for this design as it would be neutral to all of the other colours. Normally for ombre, I would choose the lightest colour as the base.
After letting the base colour dry I opened each polish so that I could quickly apply the colours to the sponge. I overlapped each line after whilst applying them in rainbow order. A few of the colours were quite thick and no matter how much I tried to reduce the amount of polish on the brush it came off quite think onto the sponge. I didn’t think this would matter too much however it ended up changing the design quite a lot. I ended up with more of a smoosh rainbow which I loved
The colour is very bright and still (in my view) has the effect of being a rainbow. This was backed up when a few people had asked if my nails were Mardi Gra themed. The latex protector really came handy with this design especially as it ended up being messier than a normal ombre.
The scariest moment of this design wasn’t worrying if the design would work out, rather it was me dropping the sponge on my table. At least it didn’t land on the floor. Some sneaky nail polish was used to clean the table as it just missed my mat. I got really lucky with this.
Overall
This design ended up being easier to create then I thought it would be and turned into something that was completely out of my comfort zone. In the spirit of Mardi Gra, I had heaps of fun creating this design.
