Food Review: Edition Coffee Roasters – Haymarket, Sydney

Edition Coffee Roasters - Japanese Souffle Pancake

One cold rainy Saturday we headed into the city to catch up with my friend for afternoon tea. After seeing the great reviews, my friend suggested that we try Edition Coffee Roasters in Haymarket. So we headed over to Haymarket hoping that the rain would hold out.

My partner and I arrived slightly early, so we headed in to grab a table. There was plenty of seating for 2, however, we had to wait for a short time for a table of 3. At least the wait was quite short. A few minutes after being seated, my friend arrived and we placed our orders.

The food

My friend and I both ordered the Japanese soufflé pancake. The pancake was so fluffy and light. It was almost like eating a very light cake. The fruit was beautifully prepared, although I wish that there was slightly more fruit as the ratio to pancake felt a little low.

My partner tried the Yuzu & Toasted Rice Icecream with Almond Praline. This beautifully presented dish was essentially a scope of ice cream with some fancy sides to give it additional flavours.

These are dishes that are great fun to try out with friends as a once off, but definitely not something that could be purchased regularly.

The coffee and Service

My partner ordered his standard skinny cappuccino. The coffee was delicious and really well balanced. The milk was heated to the perfect temperature and the coffee was smooth. I would go back just to get a coffee.

Personally, I couldn’t go past ordering the Iced Cascara described as coffee cherry tea. This was a delicious drink with a beautiful delicate flavour. As with most cold brew, it needs to be slowly sipped as I personally find the flavour to be quite strong yet enjoyable.

I found the service to be good. The staff were quite attentive. The food arrived quickly despite the 20minute time for the pancakes. I’m glad they made the effort to bring all dishes out at once so that you don’t have the awkward situation of waiting for all the food to arrive before you start the to eat. Although given that the other dish was ice cream I would have insisted that my partner starts eating straight away so that it doesn’t melt too much.

Overall – 3.5/5

The food at Edition Coffee Roasters was delicious and beautifully presented however I just couldn’t see the value for money even for it being a little more on the fancy side. On the other hand the coffee I would go back for again and again.
