Stormy Weather Nail Art

Storm Cloud Nail Art

Sydney has had some massive storms in the past week which is what inspired my stormy weather nail art. It felt like in just a matter of a few hours the nice temperatures of 20degrees (celsius) disappeared, replaced with freezing 10 degree days. I’m kind of happy the weather has turned, as it means that I can now drink more tea!

Grey and Stormy Clouds

This design started with the only logical colour, grey. I used Nails Inc – the Thames. This is a very classic dark grey, similar to that of a dark storm cloud, so it suited this design perfectly. I love the Nails Inc polishes as they are really light, dry quickly and are very opaque.

After two coats of the grey, I moved on to applying the clouds. For this design, I used plate hehe-093. The clouds were applied using OPI – Alpine snow. Unfortunately, the polish has become quite thick so I can’t use it directly on my nails. However, it works really well for nail stamping which is perfect timing because my white stamping polish is nearly out. There is definitly a silver lining through the cloud (sorry, I couldn’t resist making a pun!).

I was pretty happy with how well the clouds went on and glad to be able to use my clear stamper again!

Gold Lightning

The second part of this design involved a bit of reverse stamping. Stamping lighting bolts onto my mat, I began filling them in with a gold glitter packed polish. There is so much glitter in this polish that there almost isn’t any liquid, which makes it perfect for this design.

After applying a clear coat over the top and allowing to dry, I applied two images to each hand.

Storm Cloud Nail Art

This was such a fun design to create and the Stormy Weather Nail Art really suited Sydney atm! The lightning bolts didn’t turn out as well as I hope but I still think the design looks pretty cool.
