Exploring Sydney – A weekend food adventure | Part 2

Sydney Foodie - Guylian Cafe Cake

This post continues on from A Day in Sydney | Part 1. My friend was visiting to check out an AFL game and this gave us the perfect chance to explore Sydney and have a bit of a Sydney Food Adventure.

Exploring Sydney Day 2 – Sydney Food Adventure

Unfortunately, this was my friends last day in Sydney.  We started our day out in search of breakfast. I planned to get something small as I had already eaten. We ended up at Guylian (full review) in the Westfield tower. The food is pretty nice but I would keep it for a special treat as it tends to be a bit on the pricy side.

After a delicious breakfast, we headed towards the Cherry Blossom festival at World Square, which was about a 10minute walk away. I saw this event advertised on facebook and it looked pretty cool. Unfortunately, the event turned out to be incredibly disappointing. There was one kid’s activity that you had to pre-book and a structure thing where you could take photos. There wasn’t even a real cherry blossom tree in the area. So we left in search of cherry blossom ice-cream at Oh! Matcha in Regents Place. Unfortunately, it turns out that they no longer sold this flavour and only the World Square store stocked so we headed back. We were certainly earning this ice cream with all the walking we were doing. The ice-cream was delicious and well worth the extra walking.

In search of our next activity, we initially headed to the maritime museum which is a pretty cool place. However, before we reached our destination we came across the Chinese Friendship Garden and decided to visit there instead. It was such a beautiful place to walk around. You can read more about it in my previous post, Chinese Garden of Friendship.

Day 2 – Bar Hopping

Having worked up an appetite we started to look around for a place to eat nearby. We initially headed towards a dumpling bar. After seeing the prices and comparing them to Fratelli’s happy hour special next door, we decided to go to Fratelli’s. We ordered a few small plates and a drink each. I ordered an espresso martini, because well why not? The dishes and drinks were pretty tasty. It was really interesting to have an espresso martini from the tap.

Continuing out happy hour bar hopping we headed to Planar a few blocks around the corner from Fratelli. Neither of us had ever visited and thought we would give it a go. We ordered a happy hour cocktail and two pizza’s that were also on a happy hour special. It was a really nice spot to chill although we felt a bit disappointed that we didn’t get seated next to a heater despite there being spots available especially as the wind was a bit chilly.

Having filled our bellies and chilled out for a while and then headed back towards town hall to walk my friends back to the station for their flights.

Overall

It was a great weekend and showed me that there is still heaps to see in Sydney. Sydney can certainly be expensive but it can also be explored on the cheap its just about choosing the right places and knowing where to go especially when having a Sydney Food Adventure.
