This journey started with wanting to catch up with a few of my friends. We don’t get too see each other much so we had quite a lot to catch up on. So someone suggested that we do the Manly to Spit Walk. Having not been able to go to the gym for the last week I was really keen for the walk plus it would be a great way to chat!
Getting to Manly
We started our journey from Circular Quay where you can catch a direct ferry to Manly.
It can get a little rough around the heads so if you are prone to seasickness I recommend taking a seasickness tablet (or use any other method that you use to prevent seasickness) as it can get quite rough.
The journey takes about 30 minutes but there are heaps to look at on the way so you won’t be bored.
Exploring Manly
We started walking following the path towards spit, it’s pretty well signed so it’s unlikely that you will get lost. As the walk is quite long we didn’t go for the whole walk but planned to turn around after about an hour or so. The scenery for the whole journey was stunning. The walk wasn’t too strenuous and fairly flat.
After a while a came across this beautiful waterfall located on one of the beaches that I wasn’t expecting to see. It was nice walking along the sand even in our runners.
We continued a little while past the waterfall before deciding to turn back and grab some lunch.
At the beginning of our walk noticed these watch out for penguins signs on the path, I thought it was just a cute decoration but on our walk back we saw a few information signs about the local penguin population. I had no idea that penguins were in Sydney.
Lunch
For lunch, we headed to Betty’s Burgers. My obsession with this place started with last year’s Melbourne trip when I first came across Betty’s. The Manly store has opened recently and the quality is just as good. I ordered a chicken supreme and chocolate peanut butter thick shake. The burger was fresh and the thick shake was made exactly as it should be. It almost tasted like drinking ice cream!!
Shopping and Swimming
After lunch, we headed to towards a few swimming gear shops as we needed some new bathers for summer. A few were overly priced. However, we eventually entered CottonOn Body whos prices were much more responsible. We managed to get exactly what we needed.
We then walked in the other direction towards Shelly Beach. I didn’t enter as it looked way too cold. However, my friend jumped right in. She was determined to jump in as she said she would. I really admired her determination on this.
We headed back towards the station and headed on our journey home. Just be prepared for the ferry to be quite full if you head back in the afternoon. We ended up waiting for the second ferry to come as we had no chance of getting on the first one.
Overall
After 22876 steps it was a fantastic day! It was a great way to catch up with my friends. We were able to chat heaps as we walked around and had some great food.
