Melbourne Food – 2019 – Part 2

Coffee at Tutto Beme

This post continues part 1, of my Melbourne by Train trip. After a restful night sleep, we continued our adventure including trying a lot of Melbourne food!

Melbourne Food

Day 2 started with breakfast at Aix café, just a street over from Degraves St. I’ve only tried one or two in the area. Most places you can get into without a booking. Aix cafe was selected because the crêpes looked delicious and the food was reasonably priced. The place is really small and they only had one table that could accommodate us.

Both my partner and I selected a savoury crêpe whilst my friends went with a sweet crêpe. I also ordered a strawberry smoothie. The waiter advised that it might be a bit bitter as the season has just started so he suggested to also add some mixed berries which I was happy with. My partner ordered his usual skim cappuccino. My friends ordered a banana smoothie and chai latté. The food and drinks arrived pretty quickly. Everything was well made and so tasty. I would absolutely visit again.

With full bellies, we headed to the South Yarra area to walk around and explore. We came across a festival that was being set up but wasn’t quite ready yet. Needing the loo we headed into the bathroom we headed into a nearby shopping centre. In the shop, we got a little distracted by a local stationery shop. My friend managed to get a $10 voucher, so while choosing what she was going to buy, the three off us headed into Tutto Benet a nearby Italian café. They weren’t officially open yet but allowed us to get coffee. The coffee was amazing one of the best I have had in Melbourne. Shortly after our coffees arrived my friend re-joined us.

Federation Square

We continued walking around so that eventually we would reach Federation Square where I was really keen to check out a robotic ice cream shop, Niska. The shop was part of a collaboration between many organizations including universities. It took over 40 people to create the store. Each scoop cost $8 (ok I’ve probably paid close to this but I knew the ice cream was good) so we decided to just watch other people’s purchases. There were two operating robots doing the manual work and another acting as a greater/server. It was quite awesome to watch.

Our next stop was the Transit rooftop bar in Federation Square. We decided to grab a bowl of chips and a drink each. They had my favourite alcoholic ginger beer! The view was magnificent from the bar. I recommend getting a tall table near the edge to take full advantage of the view.

Even the toilet had a really nice view!

We walked around a little more before we had to head off to visit my family. We planned to re-join in the night.

More Melbourne Food

After arriving back in the city we headed towards Shanghai Village on Little Burke St in China Town. My partner and I were just going to have a few small bites as we had been eating all arvo. Don’t worry if the line seems long, it moves quite quickly. We headed up to the top floor which seemed to have three birthdays on at once. Initially, they sang happy birthday which was ok. Unfortunately, it led to other songs being sung that created such a loud environment. Personally, feel that this isn’t appropriate restaurant behaviour. We ended up deciding to get takeaway instead as we could talk at all. We ate dinner on the rooftop garden of my Friends place which was 1000 times nicer than in the restaurant. Dinner was followed by an epic game of cards against Disney.

To be continued…

Our Melbourne Food adventure was great fun and made even better by the company. It’s true what they say it’s hard to find a bad coffee in Melbourne. You can almost enter any place and not be disappointed.
