Sculptures by the Sea – Sydney 2019

Portal to the sea - Sculptures by the Sea

It was my friend’s last day in Sydney and we were looking for something to do. It was suggested that my friend checked out Bondi beach plus a few of the surrounding beaches. As we were looking on google maps it showed the trail for sculptures by the sea. I had completely forgotten that the event was running. So we decided to check it out.

Lunch

Heading into the city by train we were feeling a bit peckish, so we jumped off early at central and headed to coffee trails. I ordered the ham, cheese and pineapple toastie and my friend had the bacon and egg roll. The toastie was delicious! It was great to change it up from my usual order.

After lunch, we walked around a little before heading back towards the station to continue our journey to Bondi. From Bondi station, we jumped straight onto a bus towards Bondi beach. Luckily the buses are well labelled for the sculptures event.

There seemed to be fewer sculptures then last year, however, I’m not sure if that perception was created because there were fewer people around due to visiting on a weekend rather then a weekend. The sculptures were of the same quality as last year with a mix of quirky and sculptures that had been designed to fit into the environment. I prefer the sculptures that have been designed with the surrounding beach in mind, but there were a few of the quirky ones that were pretty cool. It was interesting to learn that many of the sculptures were also on display at the Perth version of Sculptures by the sea.

The wildlife even put on a display.

Overall

The 2019 Sculptures by the Sea was fantastic. It was far more enjoyable during the week with fewer crowds. There were still a lot of people but a least you could breathe. I love the car that morphed into the bird and the scope that allowed you to see the ocean crashing against the rocks.

Let me know in the comments what sculpture is your favourite.
