This journey with Shortstop Donuts Sydney started over a year ago when I first tried them at Ona Coffee. Ever since I’ve been fascinated with the amount of flavour that each donut has. I couldn’t resist going past their new store in Darling Square Sydney.
Shortstop Donuts Sydney – Matcha Donut
We picked up a matcha flavoured donut on the first visit. I was expecting that the donut would just be flavoured by the icing as is the case with most other donuts.
Upon the first bite, we discovered that the dough was flavoured with matcha and filled with some matcha cream. Additionally, the icing itself was also flavoured. The donut had an intense, delicious matcha flavour. After having this we had to try the other flavours so my partner returned the next day.
Peanut Donut and Earl Gray with Rose Donut
When we chose the matcha donut the other flavours we were eyeing off was Peanut and Early Grey with Rose, so on my partner’s visit, he purchased one of each flavour.
The Earl Grey with a rose was light with a smooth tea flavour. I’m not a huge fan of Earl Grey. This was my partners prefered flavour and he loved it.
I selected the peanut flavoured donut that was right up my ally and completely delicious. I loved the touch of crushed peanuts that added a great texture to the donut.
As with the matcha donut these two both included flavoured cream and delicious icing.
Overall – 4/5
With a high price for the donuts these are certainly a special treat. However, they are a completely worthwhile treat. The intense flavour means that each bite will leave you wanting more without being so sickly sweet. The wide range of flavours means that there is something for everyone and I would recommend trying Shortstop Donuts at least once.
