OPI Hello Kitty Mini Collection Review

OPI Hello Kitty - A Hush of Blush

After what felt like the worlds longest week, I came home to be surprised that my partner had purchased me the Hello Kitty OPI mini collection as well as a few giant versions of the Hello Kitty collection. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to try the polishes out! For this review, I will be focusing on 4 polishes, including 2 colours, a base and topcoat. Don’t worry I will review the other colours in due course.

Before I get into the review I thought I would start by reviewing what’s in the pack. The pack includes everything you need to follow the three-step infinite shine system. Step 1, the primer; step 2 includes 10 colours and step 3 infinite shine gloss.

The box has a really cute design and there isn’t too much packaging. I love the black box with the classic hello kitty pink background and a red bow. I also love that it lists the name of each shade so that you know exactly what polish you are getting. This is the first time that I have used the mini OPI polishes.

Step 1 – Infinite Shine Primer

Given that the base cost is applied first, I felt that its only fitting that I start my review here.

I applied the Infinite Shine Primer. The brush handle of the bottle is quite small but because of the texture and shape, it wasn’t too hard to hold and keep steady. The brush is also small as expected. I found that I needed to slightly adjust how I used the brush in teams of the amount of polish on it but once I got the hang of it, I found it quite easy to use. I found that the infinite shine Primer took quite a while to dry especially if I compare it to the OPI natural base coat. When it dried, the polish had an interesting texture so I will be curious to see how it feels when I apply the colour.

OPI – A Hush of Blush

Just as I was writing this I went to look for the name of the colour. I’m so glad I didn’t just go ahead and remove all of the polishes out of the box as I’ve discovered that none of the mini polishes has their names listed on the bottle itself. So hopefully I have the names correct.

Let's Celebrate and A Hush of Blush
A Hush of Blush – Middle Polish

For the first coat of A Hush of Blush, I kept this quite thin to ensure that it dried fully given that it was quite humid. The polish went on smoothly and is quite sheer. On the second coat, it was almost opaque, but I ended up adding a third coat so that it was completely opaque. The colour dried fairly quickly and had a beautiful pearl finish.

OPI – Let’s Celebrate

For the design that I had in mind, I had two motivations for using Let’s Celebrate. Firstly I wanted to create an accent nail and secondly, I wanted to use one of the glitter polishes from the OPI Hello Kitty pack.

The glitter polish features small-sized pink glitter. There are no holo or iridescent pieces which I don’t mind as its quite pretty. The glitter is quite thinly spread so I ended up applying roughly 3 coats on top of A Hush of Blush. It’s definitely a glitter that needs to be applied on top of another polish. Although it would work on its own if you’re going after a minimalist design.

Step 3 – Gloss Top Coat

After adding all of the nail art including nail stamping I gave the step 3 polish, the gloss topcoat ago. I was a little worried about how it would go being applied over the stamping as some topcoats, no matter the technique used will smudge the stamped image.

So I tested this polish on my thumb first, as its generally more hidden. If it did end up a little messy it wouldn’t matter so much. I followed the beading technique where you have a large drop of polish on the brush, drop it on the nail and pull it down trying not to touch the brush on the nail itself. To my surprise, the stamping didn’t smudge. However, the small brush due to the mini size of the bottle made it more difficult to use the technique and so I did, unfortunately, smudge one of my nails. At least the smudge was small and not too noticeable.

In terms of drying time, the polish dried pretty quickly. It had a really nice smooth finish and a nice shine to it that enhanced the pearl finish of the A Hush of Blush Polish. If I had the bigger version I would be happy to use this over nail stamping. I wouldn’t say that its a super shiny top coat but that could be due to the colour. To truly test this I would try it over a colour that I have used in the past. It should be noted that all of the pictures in the post were taken without the topcoat applied just incase I smudged the stamping.

OPI Hello Kitty - A Hush of Blush

Overall – 4/5

The OPI Hello Kitty Mini collection is very cute and has beautiful colours. I can’t wait to try out the blues and purple. The polishes are of the same high quality that you would expect from OPI. My only issue is the long drying time of the primer.

Let me know in the comments if you have used any of the OPI Hello Kitty collection.

Subscribe to be notified of next weeks post where I will be sharing the stamping used in this design.
