Matte Blue Nail Art | Winter Blues

Changing my design up this week I wanted to create a winter-themed nail art design and landed on a Matte Blue Nail Art Design. It has been a while since I’ve done a matte design, and I’ll share why further down in this post.

The Base – OPI Alpaca my Bags

I started this design with OPI shade Alpaca my Bags that is part of the infinite shine collection. This shade is a grey-blue colour that is fully opaque in two shade. The polish goes on smooth and dries pretty quickly. It has a really shiny finish even without a topcoat, which I undo with the application of the matte topcoat. I know from the last time that I used this polish, it’s long-lasting and doesn’t chip easily.

Matte Blue Nail Art

For the nail art component of this matte blue design, I used Bundle Monster (aka Maniology) plate BM-S310 and Konad black stamping polish. I was really struggling with choosing the pattern that I wanted to use. Given that I wanted my whole hand to have the same pattern, I decided to select two patterns one for each hand.

Matte Top Coat

After adding the nail stamping I decided that a matte topcoat would work well with this shade so I applied two coats of OPI Matte Top Coat. The reason that I don’t tend to use a matte topcoat very often is that I find it requires a bit of maintenance during the week as the matte effect will decrease. This issue can be resolved with the application of another coat of the matte topcoat so I just have to pick a week where I know that I will have the time to add additional coats as required.

Overall

It was nice to use the matte polish after such a long time. I love the effect and how a matte topcoat can change a design completely. Have you done matte nails? What colour would you use for a matte design?
