Sydney Coffee Review | Cafe Bros and Iluka on Baywater | Wentworth Point

Cafe Bros - Take Away Coffee

Over in the Suburb of Wentworth Point Sydney, two new cafes have just opened up so I decided to take advantage and try them both! Sydney coffee ranges from really good to not drinkable so it pays to check out reviews. We all have our favourite coffee spots and personal taste preferences so while I might not like the coffee others may love it.

This review will look at criteria of flavour, temperature and service.

Cafe Bros | Sydney Coffee

Located in a small shop Cafe Bros decor features natural wood and isn’t too bright or in your face. It feels quite homely. As I entered I was greeted by the friendly staff member where I then placed my order. I ordered two skinny cappuccinos, regular size as I had just finished my coffee at home! Don’t worry it’s not unusual for me to have two coffee’s in a row in the morning.

The coffees were made really quickly which was great as I was taking my partner into work.

They were the perfect temperature and the milk wasn’t overheated or burnt. The coffee had a really nice smooth flavour with the perfect strength and depth.

I loved the vibe and really friendly customer service!

Iluka on Baywater | Sydney Coffee

Facing out towards the Paramatta River Iluka on Baywater has beautiful water views. With open doors on both sides, it allows the cool breeze to flow through.

When we entered one of the staff came up and I asked if we could do a takeaway order. It was odd the waitress seemed that she wasn’t going to take our order at first. Given that they are new I’m just going to put this down to a teathing issue. The greeting wasn’t that friendly and I really didn’t feel welcome. I ordered two large skinny cappuccinos, as it had been a few hours since my last coffee.

After a few minutes, 2 latte’s was yelled out which I ignored as this wasn’t my order. However, the waitress indicated this was our order. I just went with it anyway as I’m not too bothered on a latte vs cappuccino. However, it definitely used full cream milk which I am more annoyed at as I’m lactose intolerant and I find skim milk doesn’t affect me as much.

I could feel from how hot the coffee was (I could barely hold the cup) that the milk had been overheated. The coffee didn’t have that great of a flavour and overall the drink left me pretty disappointed.

Sadly the service wasn’t great, the coffee didn’t hit the mark and the order wasn’t right. I was going to rate this 2/5 but bumped it up a little to account for being so new.

Overall

I’ll definitely be heading back to Cafe Bros to try their food and get more coffee!! I’ve seen some pictures and the food looks amazing!

I don’t think I’ll be headed back to Iluka in a rush. I may try it again in a few months just in case it was just teathing issues.

(P.S… Since drafting this I’ve gone back to Cafe Bros and tried the food. It is amazing!!)

  1. Such a shame you didn’t enjoy your experience at Iluka! I’m a regular there and it has nestled into the local community and become a favourite for everyone else! The coffee is the best in the area, if not Sydney! I hope you give them a second chance because the love that is poured into that place just doesn’t seem reflected here! Also if you had ordered cappuccinos and received lattes surely you would just confirm so they could fix it for you??

    1. It wasn’t the lattes that bothered me, I’m not generally fussy with things like that unless it was the main dish. It was the odd welcome and the really badly burnt coffee that tasted awful. If the coffee tasted good and service was better I would have given a 3-4 out of 5. But the poor coffee really let them down.

I may consider giving them a second chance in a few weeks but I feel that there is better coffee around the area and Sydney that id rather spend my money on

  2. How odd that you had that experience. I went there just after they opened and had an unreal experience and have been back twice again since.
I actually reviewed them on google which I never do because I was hella impressed with the service and the food experience. Coffee was great, staff were friendly and the crab linguine was unreal.
I would recommend you go again and have a second experience because I was shocked to read your review and how far apart our opinions are.
Legit it’s my new fave cafe

    1. Yeh, I was surprised as well as everyone has said it was great. I might give them another chance in a few weeks. Hopfully they have worked out the kinks

  3. OMG how bad is the second one :-O

That happened to me in Starbucks….the girl at the till put “s” on for soya milk and the girl making it made it with skimmed (which would kill me, I am very intolerant). I am so glad I checked, I said “is it totally vegan” then the error came out. She was very nice and made a new one. It was the Pumpkin Spiced Latte they do at this time of year – OMG I love them and they have started doing vegan cream too!

I know times are hard at the moment, but we expect better service huh!

How long has it been since you found out lactose isn’t your friend? I have been 18 years lactose free – well mostly as some places still mess up orders 😐 Oddly enough my toddler has issues with lactose as well. Cutting it out from her diet in June there, what a difference it has made to her seriously wow!

    1. Yeh im pretty sure the waitress just didn’t listern at all. I think its been most of my life but it got really bad around pre teens. I felt so much better after cutting it from my diet. Now im able to have small amounts which is awesome! I would hate to not be able to have it at all but least now there are plenty of alternative options

I’ve seen starbucks are pretty good with fixing mistakes which is awesome. I really should have just said thats not what I ordered when I heard them say latte
