Welcome to the second part of my what is series. This week I will be exploring the topic of what is nail stamping? I wanted to explore this topic early on as its one of my most common questions. The video below will go into more depth, however I also wanted to create this post to give you some more resources to help you on your nail stamping journey!! If you have any questions pop them in the comments below.
What is Nail Stamping? – an overview
Nail stamping is the process of using specialist stamping polish to transfer a image from a metal stamping plate on to your nail. If you watch the video this will make far more sense.
There are three different styles:
Stamping is the process that I described at the beginning of this section.
Reverse stamping is where the imaged is filled in with various colours and then applied to your nails. Different techniques include colouring the image on the stamper or using a stamping mat.
Layered stamping comes in two different forms. An abstract style with two images stamped one on top of the other. The other style uses a stamping plate specifically designed, so that you add the different parts of the image layer by layer. For example, to stamp the watermelon you would stamp the seeds, the skin and the red flesh. Each part can be done in a different colour.
What do you need to get started
There are a few must have items including:
- Stamper
- Stamping plate
- Stamping polish
- Nail Polish Remover
- Lint roller
A stamping mat is optional but does make things easier.
Looking after your equipment
To ensure that you don’t damage your equipment, I strongly recommend following this guide. Stamping plates can be cleaned with any nail polish remover. However if you have a silicone stamper you must not use nail polish remover as it will destroy the stamper. A lint roller works well for clearing this style of stamper.
The same rule applies to your stamping mat.
Overall
I hope you found this post useful! Make sure you watch the video for more detailed information.
