Let’s start 2022 with a bang, with this swatch of Black Orchid by ILNP. This polish has been on my swatch list for a while now. It was one of my first ILNP polishes and also one of my favourites, which is why I was devastated when I lost it. Watch the video to find out the story behind that one!

Black Orchid – ILNP Swatch
I started this swatch with 3 coats of UNT peel off base coat so that I could easily remove the nail polish especially as it has small holo flecks in it and I’ve slightly damaged my nails from my last glitter removal.
For this swatch, I aimed to keep the coats quite thin as I tend to get a better result, especially for the polish drying. This polish is pretty opaque but it still needed three coats for most of my fingers. There were a few that needed an extra coat just because I applied it a little too thinly. That more comes down to user error.
The final finish for me looks more like a burgundy shade with holo flecks rather than the purplish shade that can be seen on the website. There is a range of different factors that can change how the shade looks in pictures such as lighting used. Regardless I still love this polish!
In terms of wear, I always find that ILNP polishes are long-lasting even when I’m using a peel-off base coat. There was some slight chipping at the ends which is more down to me doing a lot around the house this week.
Overall (Score 4.4/5)
Overall this still is one of my favourite shades. I actually thought I had lost it for a while because it looks so different in the bottle to my nails. I’m so glad I’ve since managed to ‘re-find’ this shade. The only downside is that the polish handle has started to become really sticky and disintegrate, leaving black stuff over my fingers, so I’m going to see if I can find a way to fix it. Keep an eye out for that post.
- Bottle Design (lower score due to sticky handle)
- Colour/Opaque
- The drying time
- Chip resistance
- Value for Money
