Welcome to my 2019 Easter Nail Art series. As mentioned in my last post, I’m hoping that I can share at least 3 designs plus a special YouTube video featuring 10 Easter nail art ideas. I love doing Easter themed nails because of all the pastel colours and cute bunnies. To see my designs from last year take a look at these two links: design 1 or design 2. I also love Easter because it indicates the change of seasons. In Australia, this means that the weather is getting cooler and winter is coming (yes I went there). It’s also a great time for chocolate as it doesn’t have to be stored in the Fridge which in summer is mandatory unless you wish to drink it.
COLOUR
As I started to write this post I started to wonder what colour to call base polish. I was tossing up whether Artful Dodger by Butter was green or blue. In the end, I settled with it being green. However, in a certain light, it certainly has a slightly blue tinge to it, especially in the bottle.
The polish went on smoothly and only required two coats to go on smoothly. Unfortunately, though, each layer took about 20minutes to fully dry and for me to feel comfortable with adding the next layer. I don’t know if it’s me but I’m finding that polishes that are 3 free take a little longer to try compared to other styles of polish. I would love to know if you have the same experience or if you know of 3 or 5 free polishes that don’t have a long drying time.
In terms of wear, this polish is super strong and really made up for the long drying time. The polish has latest the week with barely a chip in sight. The polish didn’t crack when my nails flexed and stood up to a volleyball final.
Overall I love this polish. It will be saved for days when I have a little more time but I won’t hesitate in purchasing it again, provided it’s on sale.
Easter Nail Art Design
Moving onto the design. I aimed to create an Easter themed design without it being too obvious that they were Easter nails. I wanted to keep the design subtle as its still three weeks away from Easter and unlike Christmas, I will look a bit odd decked out in Easter nails so far from the day. Also, I was in the mood to do a little reverse stamping. Armed with my pastel colours I set out to create my design.
Starting with my middle finger I stamped a dark green leaf on the nail. This was to help tone down the ‘easterness’ of my design and to add a different element.
I then moved onto the reverse stamping so that I could allow it to dry. As mentioned in prior posts, I highly recommend creating extra stamped images just in case some don’t work out which for this design I needed to use my spares. As I let this dry a little I moved onto my remaining four nails.
For these, I applied some pastel dots. I can definitely see some improvement from my last attempt at dots and can see that practice has paid off. So if you’re struggling to use the dotting tool I highly recommend practising as much as possible, because its a skill that can be learned.
Overall
Overall I was really happy with how this design turned out. I don’t think anyone has picked up the Easter inspiration yet I’ve had a few compliments which are also really nice to receive. I’m also really pleased with my reverse stamping. I’m finding that I’m getting less frustrated and am slowly starting to improve. It’s certainly a long journey to learn reverse stamping.
