Review: Sally Hansen – Hard as Nails

Sally Hansen - Hard as Nails

Way back when I started nail art my nails were quite short compared to now. Even before I started my nail art journey my nails were shorter again. It was just before my year 12 ball when I decided I wanted to grow my nails out. However, every time I did they would just break and chip. It didn’t help that I was working in retail. So I began to search for a product that would help me to achieve my goals, initially of just having a little length.

Hard as Nails

The reason I decided to review this product is it’s something I have been using off and on for over 10 years and also I’m about to put my nails through a serious test. In a few weeks, I’ll be moving and I will have volleyball finals. So to try and prevent breaks I’ll be using the following strategy which includes the use of Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails.

My first strategy is to shorten my nails to what I consider a medium length. This is more important for the volleyball finals as I tend to push myself a little more then I would in normal games. It also reduces the chance that they will get caught on something when moving. If the nail is really long I will cut it then file. Otherwise, I will just file my nails.

After shortening my nails I will apply a coat of Hard as Nails. Followed by any nail colour/art that I want to add. You can also leave the top coat as is.

The final step is to ensure flexibility in your nails. For this, a good nail oil is highly recommended. If you find your nails are snapping take a break from hard as nails and use a normal base coat, whilst continuing to use the nail oil. If your nails are quite strong already it may be better to interchange each week between the nail hardener and plain base coat.

Overall

For anyone trying to protect, grow and strengthen their nails I highly recommend a combination of nail hardeners and nail oil.

Good luck with your nail growth journey.
Keep an eye out in a few weeks I’ll be giving my tips for moving with lots of nail polish.
