Nail Art Design: Funky Banana Nails

Banana Nail Art

It’s nice to be back writing after an insane month. I’ve moved apartments and have finally unpacked my last box. I will likely rearrange a few things but for now, it will do. I also headed to the snow for some skiing. I’ll write about this shortly. It always seems everything happens at once so I’m looking forward to a peaceful weekend. Anyway onto the nail art, like a few of my latest designs, this design was part of a birthday collaboration. The criteria was something blue and/or with food plus a few other options that I can’t quite remember, so I came up with a Funky Banana Nail Art Design.

The Design

I decided to go with the food option as a start. I have a few ways to go with this design either stamping or decals/stickers. Given that I was quite busy at the time I decided to go with decals. I’ve been wanting to use some funky Banana decals that I bought a while ago. Plus this would work really well with a blue base, so I selected a blue that is slightly darker than sky blue wanting to enhance the yellow bananas.

I applied two coats of OPI – Rich Girls and Po-Boys, a shade that I keep going back to. It’s not too dark that I can’t add nail art stickers on top and the formula is fantastic. After allowing this to fully dry I moved onto applying the water decals. If your not sure if you have water decals or stickers, the best way to tell is that stickers will easily come off. Water decals will only separate after being soaked in water. Don’t stress if you’re not sure. In my early days, I ruined an enter water decal sheet trying to pull the images off like stickers. So I’ve learnt the hard way.

Filling a small bowl, with shallow water I pre-cut each decal that I wanted to apply. It’s important to precut the shapes because it can become quite difficult once your hands are wet. Also, aim to cut as close as possible to the shape of the image to reduce the excess around the image. This will make clean up much easier. Soaking each image about 30 seconds, I was able to easily slide it off the paper. If you can’t slide it off pop it back in the water for a few extra seconds.

Having placed each decal, I applied a few topcoats to finish my design.

Overall

I’m really happy with how this Banana Nail Art turned out. I ended up being a really fun looking design that was quick and easy to create.
