Galaxy Nail Art | Nebular Design

DIY Galaxy Nail Art

Inspired (and a little excited) by my upcoming road trip where I would be doing some star gazing I decide to create some Nebular Galaxy Nail Art. It feels like I have been doing a lot of star-themed nail art of late. Each one has used a different technique. I’ll pop a list of each style at the bottom of the post so that if this style isn’t your thing there are heaps of other designs to try out!

The Base

The base of this design started with two coats of Guerlain – Perfect Black (007). I’ve reviewed this before and am still in love as I was on my first use. It’s a smooth polish that dries quickly and is very opaque.

Galaxy Nail Art – Creating a Nebular

For the galaxy itself, I used a sponge. For the sponge, you don’t need anything fancy. I just get mine from the $2 store or k-mart. If the sponge is a little big (most are) just chop it up.

These are the colours that I used:

  • Gold – OPI Many Celebrations to Go
  • Blue – MUD, Caribbean Sky
  • Purple – Color Show, Plum Paradise (280)
  • Red – Ulta3, Black Plum

I applied the colours at random around the sponge. At times one particular colour would become more dominate so I would overlay other colours so reduce the strength. Some times it takes a few layers to get the pattern right.

Once I was happy I decided to narrow the pattern so that it was more like a diagonal strip. I did this by painting more of the black over the top.

Overall

This design ended up being a little more challenging then I thought it would be. Not because the technique is hard but because I hand a vision in my head and it didn’t quite happen. Once I let go of that, I was completely happy with the design. So sometimes when doing nail art you just have to go with the flow.

Also as promised here are some other galaxy designs:

If you give any of these a go, I’d love you to tag me @theNailChronicle
