Purple Rainbow Nail Art | Saving a failed design

After seeing nailsoflizmo‘s video with the beautiful rainbow reverse stamping I knew I had to give this a go. While adding my own twist! Unfortunately, it didn’t quite go to plan and my attempt at making a rainbow road-inspired nail art design didn’t quite work out. So I changed the design and will definitely be coming back to the rainbow road inspiration soon!

The Base

For the base, I wanted to use a purple that wasn’t too dark that it would be hard to see stamping. I didn’t want it to be too pastel as it wouldn’t quite go with the original idea of Mario Kart Rainbow road. So I went with Devonshire Row by Nails Inc. This is a bright purple with slight tones of pink.

I really only needed one coat of this polish at it is so opaque. However, like always, I applied for two coats.

The reverse stamping component of this design started with a patterned image from hehe stamping plates. I wanted to go with an obscured chequered pattern. Unfortunately, this resulted in me not quite getting the design that I was after. But in the end, it turned out ok.

I used three pastel colours from hit the bottle to fill in the blank spaces of the chequered image and followed this up with a smudge-free top coat.

Once dry, using a pair of tweezers I removed the image from my stamping mat and applied it to the nail.

Overall

While it didn’t quite end up how I was intending it still looks pretty cool. I’m definitely going to reattempt my original idea. Only this time sticking to more of a square pattern, doing some more reverse stamping for the gaming images and using a lighter base colour.
