Mario Kart Rainbow Road – Attempt 2

Mario Kart - Rainbow Road Inpsired Nail Art

This Mario Kart Rainbow Road, inspired design has been a long time in the making. I tried to create this design about 2 months ago and wasn’t happy with how it turned out so after a bit of rescuing I ended up creating Purple Rainbow Nail Art. This time around I’m glad to say I’m much happier with the design’s outcome. It’s not 100% what I had in mind, but much closure to what I was envisioning.

The Base

To start I wanted something that wasn’t too dark so that the design could be easily seen. Keeping the Mario Kart theme in mind I decided to go with a light blue similar to the blue sky that can be found on a few of the tracks. To do this I used Smith & Cult – Birdie NumNum. Although it’s slightly darker than I was aiming for, it ended up having the effect that I was going for.

This polish dries well with thin coats and is quite opaque so I only needed to apply two coats.

Mario Kart – Rainbow Road

Not wanting to spend too long on this design, I decided that only the rainbow road part of this design would be reversed stamped.

For the square pattern, I used Maniology plate teenage dream BM-P103. I initially started with a diagonal pattern for the colours but then remembered that the rainbow road pattern is more scattered. So stamped on more of the square pattern using Stuck on You by Hit the bottle and placed the colours more randomly.

These are all the colours I used

  • Blueberry Dewdrops – blue/purple
  • Iced Mauve-jito – purple
  • Lemon Meringue – yellow
  • Apricot sour – peach/pink
  • Bubblegum bliss – pink
  • Peppermint Zombie – Green
  • Artic Cloudberry – Light blue

For the other stamping used plates LE105 by IT Girl and Maniology M050 (gamer). For the stamping polish I mostly Maniology Celestial, a sparkly dark blue. However, I also used Maniology Tree of life a dark green for my pinky and Hit the bottle Apricot sour, a peach/pink for my thumb.

Once everything had dried I applied Maniology smudge-free top coat, followed by a quick dry top coat (use my code THENAILCHRONICLE for 10% off Maniology).

Overall

After the last few months of contemplating how I would complete this design, I’m so happy with how it turned out!
